The continuing mystery..

Louisville's Bring Your Firearms to Church Day By Cary G. Stemle / Louisville Choice quotes... "Pacifism is optional for Christians," says Pagano. "It's not a requirement." Joe Phelps, pastor of Louisville's Highland Baptist Church, tells TIME he can relate to Pagano's pastoral need to address his members' fears, "but there is nothing in the New Testament — [which] Christians give priority to — to encourage responding to fear with self-defense. To the contrary, the central message... read more

Mystery Chapter 1

I've come with the first chapter of my new WIP, Mystery. Please excuse a partial repeat here. The small section I posted from it earlier was to get a feel for whether this idea was worth continuing. The response was positve, for which I'm very grateful. So now I've written the rest of the chapter. If you want to skip the beginning because you've read it, the new part starts about halfway down, right after "Who found the body?" The flashbacks are in italics, just in case it isn't clear when the time...

Continuing in the Crime/Mystery genre mood

A couple of posts ago, I had talked about some of my favorite crime/mystery novelists. Time now to talk about short stories in the same genre. If someone was to ask me to name one single mystery story featuring a series detective that I consider my favorite, I would be truly hard-pressed. From time to time, I have immensely enjoyed stories by Doyle, Christie (particularly her Miss Marple stories), Chesterton, Baroness Orczy (The Man in the Corner, remember him?), E.R. Punshon (Bobby Owen, remember...

Norman Bogner, Mystery Bookstore and other writerly things...

My life has been a tad busy since oh, about mid-November. This is a good thing, though I was hoping it would slow down enough for me to put up decorations and the tree for Christmas. I dragged the boxes of Christmas stuff out of their cupboards and hidey holes the day after Thanksgiving, wishfully thinking I would have time to put it up that weekend. That didn't happen. It is a good thing I'm busy. It's work. It's connections. It's what I do. When my e-novella came out November 9, I floated the...
