Thursday was the centerpiece of my trip, if you will. This was the day I was going to present my talk on physics, but it turned out to be so much more than a simple talk. In South Korea, Warner Brothers will sell streaming movies over the internet 2 weeks before DVDs. South Korea is pretty wired though, especially compared to the US. So don't expect a sweeping change to broadband anytime soon.

i recently wrapped a two week love affair with spam. spam is plentiful here as, up until recently, the koreans loved spam. it was exchanged frequently and used to be a very popular house warming gift. (this has been covered more thoroughly at http://www.stuffkoreanmomslike.blogspot.com - See entry #50) I say "used to" as I have yet to find a korean willing to admit that they like it. sadly, it seems like the Korean Spam Boom has fallen victim to the intermittent health crazes that plague...

In the past, heard about how expensive fruits are in Japan, even at our local supermarkets, we can find that fruits from Japan are a few times the local price.  However, there's still a market for it despite its price difference.  Here in Korea, the fruits are also a lot more costly than in Singapore. Yesterday, we bought the watermelon home, guess how much it costs 11,800 won, ie. ~ S$12 for a 7kg watermelon.  Must give it a try cos' the same one would have cost a lot more back in SIngapore...
