Recent read comment--why does a story not work?

I recently read a mystery called Devil's Food , one of a relatively new series about a baker. The character was charming and I thought the author did a really good job of integrating a fairly large cast, making nearly all of them feel like real people who were part of the main character's world. I would definitely read another in this series, but I'm not sure this particular book really worked for me. It took me a little while to figure out why. Okay, the main character, Corinna, was born... read more

recent pic of Mr. Pattinson

Some tabloid I picked up today had an article (titled something like "Is Rob a Rude Dude?") that had a pic of him beside it.  Rather recent, I guess, because his hair reflects the recent cut.  Anyway, it worried me slightly, because he didn't look well in the picture.  I can't put my finger on anything specific, but aside from the expected occasional dark circles, he just didn't seem healthy.  Silly to assume that from a pic, probably, but all the same.

Recent Hacktivity

This is another log of my (= Shlomi Fish) hacktivity. xine-lib patch got applied I mentioned my xine-lib patch for fixing the MOD/S3M/XM/IT/etc. mime types , and after pinging the mailing list discovered that it has been applied, and later on corrected . After one of the recent Mandriva updates, I can now listen to Module files on Amarok 2.x comfortably. Thanks to the Amarok developers for applying and correcting my patch. Building the KDE 4.x trunk - I decided to...

Recent Hacktivity

Before I start with the entry itself, I should note that someone copied my "Recent Hacktivity" meme . So I am going to tell my team intimidating lawyers to send him a "Cease and Desist" letter for Copyrights/trademarks/patents/trade-secrets/whatever violation. (Just kidding) OK, I did a lot of work on Perl-Begin . I went over all the pages and updated all the out-of-date information I could find, and then also implemented a decent "Testimonials" sidebar instead of the half-assed "These...

Add 'parent' and/or 'entire thread' options to the Recent Comments page

Title Add 'parent' and/or 'entire thread' options to the Recent Comments page Short, concise description of the idea Add comment context links to the Recent Comments page Full description of the idea The Recent Comments page ( http://www.livejournal.com/tools/recent_comments.bml ) lists comments in the order they were posted (as opposed to thread order). I find it super useful for high traffic journals or communities as keeping an eye on it saves you from having to subscribe to many individual...

How To Make Picasa Index All Of Your Frigging Images, Rather Than Merely The Ones Of Which It Approves Picasa by default does not index PNGs, GIFs, or TGAs. It indexes, but does not display, pictures of under 250×250 pixels in size. The problem with this is not that this is the default setting - this set-up makes sense for people using the software mainly for photo management, who probably make up most of its user base, and who don’t want Picasa indexing all the GIFs in every piece of...
