Joseph Ratzinger, the Bishop of Rome, recently held a speech to the Roman Curia which has been widely commented upon. I just read the thing in German (it is published on the vatican website in German and Italian) after celemon mentioned to me that a Swedish blog stated that he had been misinterpreted. It is astounding the amount of respect the Catholic church has - not even the law can touch it. Cardinals and the Pope are lining up to apologise for 40 years of institutional abuse, but without any threat of justice. Questions need to be asked as to why the church's members that were raping children were not handed over to the police. Those responsible for that cover-up need to be charged - and that includes Ratzinger. 40 years of systematically hiding child-rapists from the law is at the very least...

The leader of the Catholic communion, the supposedly 'infallible' Mr Joseph "Benedict" Ratzinger , renewed his calls for denying the legitimacy of the existence of homosexual and transsexual people by calling them 'against nature' [ BBC , Guardian , Ekklesia , Times ] Nothing new here, but still, it saddens me to hear those views repeated and spread again. It doesn't matter to this guy that homosexual and transsexual people have existed since forever, and are certainly not something 'aberrant'...
