Почитал rpm-4.6.0 changelog , по диагонали, правда. Обнаружил всякие приятные изменения, например, BuildRoot выставляется явно и всегда (а тот, что в спеке, попросту игнорируется), Group: можно не специфицировать, будет Unspecified; поддержка других (кроме MD5) чексумм и так далее. Выкинули из сорцов приватные версии db4, lua и что там ещё было приватного (popt?). Beecrypt выкинули совсем. В общем, всякие разные исторически сложившиеся странности-кривости выпрямляют потихоньку. Вроде как теперь...
