Babushka found a page of my awful novel and read a little of it.  She then asked if she could read the rest because she had to know what was happening and why the main character was in a crate.  I gave her a copy of the first 10k or so and she loved it.  I went out to dinner with Gina yesterday and by the time I came home Bab's was demanding to know what was demanding to know what was going to happen.  Yeah!  Finally she can't stop telling people I haven't written anything decent in 15 years.  Excellent...

The first book I ever read in secret as a pre-teen was Erskine Caldwell's steamy 1933 novel God's Little Acre , about sex and lust among illiterate sharecroppers and millhands in the backwoods South. The paperback copy from the 1940s belonged to my ex-Marine brother and was among his personal things I used to rummage through. So, I had a dream a few months back.  It looked like a scene from LOTR.  Basically, a girl, me, quite possibly, was climbing a cliff behind Minas Tirith, Sam & Frodo in tow.  The imagery was so clear to me, and after thinking about it, I managed to get some ideas organized for a possible novel. Basic Plot: The girl in my dream is a servant in the unnamed capitol city of an unnamed medieval-type country.  Her name is Amara, and she's not just any servant.  She is in training to be the head housekeeper...

Done a lot of rewriting. I went through the first 50 pages word-by-word, restringing the music so the rhythm is strong but varied. I would like to do this to the entire novel before I let anyone else see it, but Betty Brown (an excellent proof reader, and friend of my mom--and someone who I know will not pull any punches) has a very narrow window she can read the story in. Basically, I have until Friday. And I still have one major plot point and one major exposition point to fix.
