Another hailstorm today. And I don't know why weather patterns would follow local political boundaries, but this morning on my way to work as I crossed 145th, leaving Seattle city-proper, suddenly snow was on the ground and the roads were slushy. I rented a few episodes of Cosmos , the Carl Sagan docu-miniseries from almost 30 years ago. I remember loving it as a child. It was entrancing, inspiring, and even when it was a little tedious it was still great fun. Watching it now, decades later, I... read more

East Dallas had not yet suffered the Yuppie invasions. There was still not a single respectable bar to be found on lower Greenville Avenue, and quiche blight was unknown to the region. The epitome of culinary mastery was practiced locally by the ex-Navy cooks at the "We Never Close Waffle House" on Gaston Avenue. There they held to the simple but effective disciplines of keeping the grease, the floor and the customers language clean. They maintained order with the assistance of a pistol behind... read more

Yea!!! What a great festival. Starting off in NYC. Our plan was for Chris, Robert, and I to meet at Puck's and Richard would show up with the van so we only had one pick up place. This proved to be very efficient. it took me 3 major trips via subway to get all my stuff to Puck's for the final pick up. I did this over about 10 days as I had things ready. Yes we could have used a bigger van, but it was what it was. Only a slight delay at the Holland Tunnel and we're off. We got to Pomeroy around 11... read more

Walkway - Help Needed This Weekend, Food Offered! |

As many of you know, for many months I have had the materials for making a patio/walkway on my driveway - gravel, sand, bricks, you name it. The plan is to make a walkway by the side of my driveway. the goal is to make it easier to clear more snow in the winter so that we can get out of the car without stepping into snowbanks, and to have a proper walkway up to the side of the house. Alas, here it is in November, and despite claims, promises, and some efforts, I have managed to finish about 1/4... read more

Stormy Weather Sailing is the art of controlling a sailing vessel. By adjusting the rigging, rudder and dagger or center board, a sailor manages the force of the wind on the sails in order to change the direction and speed of a boat. Mastery of the skill requires experience in varying wind and sea conditions, as well as knowledge concerning sailboats. Today most people enjoy sailing as a recreational activity. Recreational sailing can be further divided into racing, cruising and day... read more
