London break

So, the Friday before last I slept in, got up, went into town, bought shoes, and met up with anonypooh in time for a late lunch (of loaded chips and chilli) in Leicester Sq. Then we went of to buy her a new pair of jeans at Miss Sixty, stopping to take in a charming French street artist's performance in Covent Garden on the way. Back to my hotel to freshen up and drop off/collect our things, and out again to meet up with freakspawn at Euston, and off to the pub for drinks and a... read more

The Great London Trek

Hey All, So, as you may already know, I am walking across london very soon.  And why, you might ask?  Well, firstly because my brother bet me that I couldn't (but that is moot), and also to raise money for the Fibromyalgia Association UK , to help raise awareness and that.  Also, I am mightily cheesed that the tube is so Darn inaccessible, so I am walking mostly along the District Line, which is subbish for these things.  Anyway, we can be found at www.greatlondontrek.com and you can sponsor me...

London, Weeks 5 & 6

A little over a week ago on Friday 2 March, I met Rob (from The Netherlands) and Jai (from Australia) at the Bath Spa rail station ready for another adventure. This time we were headed straight for London's Paddington station on a standing-room-only journey. When we arrived in London later that evening, Rob went to hang out with his investment banker friends from home, leaving Jai and I to find our hostel and explore London together. It took me a while to wrap my mind around the London Underground...

London caaaaaaaalliiiiiiiiing!

Now you guys may ask what the zeck happened in London, when i finally hit the town. Here is some F.A.Q to start with: Was it fun? Oh yes, you had no idea. Seen EQUUS there? Unfortunately no, had problems for that - not enough money and mum who got mother feelings for Daniel. Did you managed to kidnap Rupert Grint or/and Daniel Craig? Nope, i had them under my spell, but somehow they sneaked away from me! And you are still alive? HEY, WHAT KIND OF A QUESTION IS THAT??? *looooooooool* ...

The London Within

In a private club in central London today, I saw the city. It coalesced around architectural highlights, a shining cluster of Canary Wharf, sun-lit; lowering clouds over Battersea Power Station; dappled light on the London Eye. The images were in my mind, eyes still open. Rows of well-preserved Edwardian houses occupy a different niche of my memory from the Hammersmith Flyover. My experience of each place, the way I've interacted with them, distinguished them. Thus, in visualization, cloud and sun...

[S]he who is tired of London is tired of life.

I feel like it's been forever since I posted! (Or, hey, six days. But I digress.) This evening you're going to be subjected to more than the usual amount of verbiage from me, I fear, but I'll try to make it worth your while. First, cominciamo da capo: life promises to be slightly more insane than usual this week, as the post-spring-break end-of-semester frenzy kicks in at work and in my own, er, academic pursuits. (In other words, my students haven't done all the work they should have, and...
