Help! Hyperlinks in Powerpoint...

An instructor where I work has Powerpoint presentations with hyperlinks, mostly to local files like AVI or WMV videos, or occasionally PDF documents. At home and in her office, the links behave as expected: Windows opens the linked file as if someone had clicked on it from an Explorer window. On the classroom computer, however, we first get a warning message about potentially harmful information asking for confirmation to proceed. After clicking "OK", we get: Error: No program is registered to open... read more

Powerpoint on Vichy France

I had another French project, this time on French history! I chose mine on Vichy France (France under German occupation during WWII), after a few other topics that I originally wanted to do were already taken by other students, including those from my teacher's other class period. I imagined Vichy France would not have crossed anyone's mind, unlike Napoleon or the French Revolution; granted, those were some of the more popular topics, but overdone. I love WWII history, and this is as contemporary...

The Joys of Powerpoint, Kitties, and Studio 60

Instead of working on my homework (I hate that term, sounds so high school), I helped my brother revise his Powerpoint slides for his class tomorrow.  He's teaching an art appreciation class.  I think it helps him that I go over what he's doing to see if I understand it.  I get a little confused when he starts in on hues and values and such.  I think they turned out nicely. Bought more cat food for Sophie and picked up her drugs from the pharmacy. Watched Studio 60 tonight.  I love that show. ...

Why powerpoint sucks

Standard powerpoint presentations interfere with our ability to learn according to this researcher . This same article also says this research suggests "that teachers should focus more on giving students the answers, instead of asking them to solve problems on their own". That is a very suspect position on the face of it; however, from context later in the article, I believe this statement specifically applies in the context of asking students to solve problems in class, in real time. Interpreted...

This morning I got to schoool and realised Stuart left yesterday for his 3 week trip to Scotland. I never got to say bye. Kind of sad really. Form class was boring. Me, Leighton and Aaron were talking about the hole in my stockings and I was trying to explain to them that you are supposed to put nailpolish on holes in stockings and it stops them from getting bigger/ripping more. They didn't get it (actually, the nailpolish thing doesn't really work that well...). I had Maths first. Me and Jess sat...
