It was 150 years ago today that that the San Francisco Bulletin published the notice that Joshua A. Norton proclaimed himself Emperor of the United States. From Today's Chronicle: Norton followed his first notice with a second proclamation, abolishing Congress because there was too much fraud and corruption.
