Today's "Great Scot" is probably better described as infamous rather than great... especially depending on what side of the Protestant-Catholic fence you're on. Cardinal David Beaton was Archbishop of St Andrews (centre of the Church in Scotland) and the last Scottish Cardinal prior to the Reformation in the 1500's.
