I am seriously all by myself this holiday. Perhaps I will go visit Tom and Maya if they are not also on holiday. Ryan is on a short missions trip to Egypt with about 10 others from our bible study. Jeremy will be off to a family reunion in Pennsylvania. Mom, Dad and Matt are all off on a short vacation down south. I have the house to myself and a bunch of people I tend to celebrate the 4th with are away this year. I will have to go hunting down some friends I guess. Well, the Fourth of July is drawing to a close, but still on the books for a few hours more. :) Today was quiet, with a barbecue in the backyard and the smell of delicious food sizzling on the grill, and all kinds of wonderful yummies on the picnic table. The idea of it helped inspired me with my latest S/B fic, which I'm writing now. :) The weather here has been marvelous, around 65-70 degrees. A welcome change from last week's two-day heat wave of 90 degrees with high humidity. I hate humidity...

Yes!!! I finished up the animated batch of my 'Independence Day' icons -- and before the Fourth, too! (I'm personally amazed. I was up quite late last night working on them...) Like almost every American, this independence day I watched fireworks. But unlike every American I had a small epiphany as I watched. This Fourth of July, like every Fourth of July, I spent the weekend with my family at our lake house at the heart of the continental divide. Woke up early after a wee sleep. Ate a huge breakfast and headed off over to Leavenworth and down 9.4 miles on Icicle Creek Road to the trailhead of the "Fourth Of July Creek" trail. I'm not so fond of snakes really. Damn and off we go. We cross over the creek, The trail begins with an uphill slope all the way up through a sparsely treed area and then up through a flowery meadow. Just finished my fourth book, here's the review. =) 4. The Virgin's Lover (Phillipa Gregory) This book centered around the first couple of years of Queen Elizabeth the I's reign, and her relationship with Robert Dudley, a man of her court. A slight amount of prior knowledge about these two people is probably required to fully appreciate this novel, but if you do possess this, or at least an interest in that time period, you will most likely enjoy this captivating and intriguing tale.
