I got my period when I was 12 or 13 (can't remember exactly) and my periods were always long, heavy w/ clotting, and cramps so bad I would be doubled over in pain and miss days of school. I went on birth control when I was 15 due to the painful periods, and it certainly helped, but the cramps were still pretty bad.
