Cooking burn out

It's Thursday again which means planning a menu and then cooking for Shabbat... And for whatever reason, I'm very not interested in it. I don't know why or what happened, but for the past few months, I really don't look forward to cooking for Shabbat. I have millions of recipes at my fingertips, yet find myself at a loss of what to make and then going to the old standbys of basic chicken and veggie soup or chicken with rice. Monday night is pasta night in my house. Normally, this is no big deal. But when I accidentally rested my forearm on the pot while pouring the pasta through the colander, it became a medium deal. I realized it right away, but the pain didn't start for a few seconds. Anyone else like that? Seriously, it can take a moment or two for certain pain, like heat, to register. I've been burned before, minorly, and I basically shake it off. But this was not pleasant, owing to the size. It was probably a blotchy...

...but then I knew that. At least I'm usually alerted by the smell when the rice is about to burn (sigh), but today I reasoned that it was too early to be making dinner—in fact I won't cook today, we'll have microwaved leftovers instead—and so nothing could be burning. Today Deadpool was repeating the word 'chimichanga' over and over again. It was a fun word to say. Go on, try it out. Chimichaaaanga. But, oddly enough, he didn't plan on having the kids make any. Because he didn't think they tasted very good. "Goooood morning kids! Today we're making a lil' foray into the deliciousness of Mexican food. And no, not the Taco Bell kind. One of my favorite thins to do when I make pesto is to make a really large batch, then place all the extra pesto into old fashioned ice cube trays and freeze them.  Once they are frozen, you can break them out of the ice cube trays and place them in a freezer bag to keep them from getting freezer burn.  When you are needing a quick, very tasty dinner, just take a few cubes of the frozen pesto out and defrost them.  Mix it up with some fresh pasta, and you are set.

Stupid GMA Christmas commercial, making me cry and all. Friggin, blasted commercial. Stupid, stupid family-togetherness-on-a-special-occasion-commercial… What’s worst is that I’m crying now, about five hours after watching it and that’s like some major sluggish reaction. My wits couldn’t have been any slower. But this feeling of piercing loneliness and longing is here now and refuses to be subdued no matter how much I try to suppress it. And my tears won’t stop falling either.   I miss my mother...
