Belize Part II

Nov 3 Today we decided to see if we could go to Altun Ha.  We originally wanted to go cave tubing and zip lining but weren't sure if the caves were open.  We hired a tour guide to drive us there and show us around.  It wasn't cheap, $200BZ per person.  But it was worth it to avoid the hassle factor.  There was still flooding on the Northern highway, but his high clearance van had no problems.  It was worth the trip. Inspired by my darling daughter, here are some thoughts...more positive things about Belize! 1. The Weather. Before, it was too hot / humid / wet. But today is like your dream of a glorious, idyllically perfect summer's day in Britain. Vivid blue skies with fluffy clouds, emerald greens and blooms drenched in golden sunshine, with a gentle breeze. 28 deg C in the shade, something just over 30 in the sun - absolutely beautiful. And much cooler at night now, too, so we can go for walks and even manage...

alright, done with the cheesy puns for a while. anyways, i got home from belize on monday afternoon -- just about 2:30 it was PHENOMENAL. i really don't think i have the space to even begin to say how amazing that trip was :] i journaled all through it, so i can definitely recall any and all of it it just...blew my mind. it's so beautiful down there. and so warm, and so clean, and just so...pristine. it's amazing. and i made so many good friends!! i hardly knew the kids i was traveling with...

I leave for Belize tonight on my own, Trisha should already be there as of today. No big group of people going with me this year, which is cool. It should be even mellower, but who knows how things will go on Caye Caulker. I should go over 150 dives on this trip, which doesn't seem like that much any more. Mostly I'm looking forward to a relaxing time, and forgetting about everything else going on in the world.

I had one of the laziest trips ever to Belize. While I partly blame Trisha and daveman692 for my sloth, I must confess to not really fighting it too much, and even encouraging it sometimes. Trisha did meet me at the pier with a cold beer, so it was a good start. Our very first dive we had two dolphins some within 20 feet of us and swim nearby for about 20-30 seconds, a first for me.
