I couldn't wait any longer yesterday night. In about 3 inches of our March snow, I pulled out the grill and threw on two racks of pork ribs. I was probably outside in a tee-shirt and jeans for about an hour (not as cold as you'd think standing in front of the grill -- it was about 40 degrees out). My neighbors probably thought I was nutz, and my wife ldyloreliranveg probably did, too! The back yard smelled like a frigid summer and the smoke stung my eyes, but those ribs sure tasted good...

Some hopes are destined to be dashed - and my hope that Sam's would live up to it's reputation as one of the best in Austin appears to be one of those. Sam's is an old Austin institution - a hole-in the wall in East Austin, a postage stamp of an inside serving area boasting two tables and two booths. But it has a reputation for mouth watering moist brisket, and a menu that is one of the few in town that still lists mutton. BBQs are good. Nice and easy to cook and generally pretty enjoyable what ever the season. Only downside is I now smell like a walking BBQ. I guess that's what you get for cooking Snags and Hamburgers for the entire Year 12 class. Back to 254 Project due 9am tomorrow. Just need to work out why on earth these tug boats take so long in this port simulation!
