David was still reeling internally from his "arrival" on the island. He really had thought he had just slipped (for the first time since he was a teenager) in a Jump and ended up in the wrong place. But when he tried again, he just landed on the opposite end of the beach. Then a second try had him end up on the steps of the casino.
