ArmadilloCon 2008 writers' workshop: pros' advice and a story construction game

The writers' workshop started with advice panels on writing. Some of the advice the pros gave was debunking common writing myths , so in a way it was metaadvice. Sheila Williams , the editor guest of honor, shared some good, compelling pieces of wisdom . It's all the more valuable coming from the mouth of the Asimov's editor. She identifies mistakes made by beginning authors with [uncanny accuracy (well, not uncanny, given her profession) | accuracy that made me hang my head down in embarrassment... read more

ArmadilloCon

I had a great time at ArmadilloCon this year. I spent so much time chatting with cool folks I knew and folks I had the pleasure to meet (I won't do the name thing, as that's an easy way to leave someone out, and I'm terrible at remembering names) that I missed panels and readings I wanted to attend such as the Broad Universe Rapid-Fire Reading, where an LSS Reader advance reading copy was given away. So, I don't really have much of a con report to relate. That said, I enjoyed both of the panels I...

Pros fic: A Falling Off

In honour of one of my favourite episodes this week on Pros Watch, Fugitive, Jess has very kindly posted 'A Falling Off' online at the Circuit Archive. It's the story I wrote for her first zine, 'Never Far Apart', and my 67K coda to the episode. I cannot tell you the glow it gave me to be invited between the covers for this, as I was *such* a newbie at the time! I'd never worked with an editor before, and she wouldn't let me dedicate the story to her as well as Izzie at the time, so I'm doing it...

Calling Pros fans with great memories

I was looking at the Mary Renault entry on fanlore , and we've found example stories for all of her books with m/m relationships...except the pair: The King Must Die and The Bull from the Sea . I vaguely remember a Pros novel or novella where Doyle was a bull rider, and Bodie was a priest or somethin'. Am I crazy?

The Pros Slash Proliferation Challenge

I've been chatting with people, trying to figure out ways in which to encourage and grow more gorgeous Pros Slash in our f-lists. With that goal in mind, we thought we'd try a new challenge! The Pros Slash Proliferation Challenge: For the next seven days, post *something* slashy about our lads at your journal. It can be anything - a pic, a quote, a thought, a novella... They don't have to be seven consecutive days - because we know what real life is like - although the closer, the better...
