And Yet, I've Never Seen Her Films...

Swiped from the most excellent davidgallaher1 : Your result for The Director Who Films Your Life Test... Sofia Coppola With few films under her belt (The Virgin Suicides, Lost In Translation, Marie Antoinette) as a writer/director, she's already highly respected and connected -- her dad, Francis, directed all The Godfather movies and Apocolypse Now. Sofia's good at making the romantic drama that is your life with poignant sullen moments of introspection. You saw how she stylishly... read more

Strange Films

Weird movie review time. Over the weekend I caught up with two movies I've been meaning to see for a while now. I enjoyed both, but they are both a little strange and non-mainstream... Death is the road to awe... Darren Aronofsky's The Fountain defies easy categorization and this probably responsbile, at least in part, to it's very troubled production history. It's essentially a meditation on the nature of death and immortality, seen through the eyes of Hugh Jackman's character as he tries to...

Top Ten Films of 2007

Alright, this is it. I still haven't seen Charlie Wilson's War, The Kite Runner, 4 Months, 3 Weeks, and 2 Days or the Golden Globe winner, Atonement. However I'm hedging my bets that none of these films will make my list (the only one that might force me to amend this list is 4 Months) - Atonement especially, since no matter how good it is, these types of movies I'm just principly against. So here we go: Top Ten Movies of 2007 1. No Country for Old Men 2. Michael Clayton 3. Into the Wild...

Films X

X: Joel and Ethan Coen, No Country for Old Men (2007) I've long been a fan of the Coen brothers and, whilst I can see the argument that their parodic streak undercuts empathy with their characters, I think we do still care. Of late, however, I've not been so sure. I disliked Intolerable Clooney , which wasn't their own script, and didn't go near The Ladykillers with a ten-foot proverbial. So now we have their version of a neo-western, an adaptation of a Cormac MCarthy novel I haven't read....

100 films.....no.Y

La Vita è Bella [Life is Beautiful] (1997) directed, written by and starring Roberto Benigni. Also starring Nicoletta Braschi, Georgio Cantarini. Woah. I put off seeing this film for ages, as I have a real fear of films that will upset me too much and make me cry. I knew beforehand from publicity that the story was about a Jewish man who tries to comfort his small son in a concentration camp by pretending everything's a game - and there's no way that story could not be heartwrenching! ...

A not too silent synposis of silent films.

I have increased the amount of movies I've watched and I do have to say I have become quite obsessed with Silent Films. I was talking with my friend film major and I we were talking about silent films and he had to be a smart ass and say something like "well do they have music on them?" "then they're really not silent now are they?" and the whole conversation has made me think of the organ loft ! Oh golly, I am dying to go there. Well, if you don't know what the organ loft is then it is a place...
