The veranda of the little streetside restaurant half-shaded by the high reach of the over-arching palm fronds, it is built of white stone and separated from the meandering steps of eager window shoppers and other tourists by narrow white balustrades. There are only a handful of tables and chairs clustered on this sunlit stretch of stone, all with fancifully curlicued feet against which Percy has propped one sneakered foot.
